Rolf M. Zinkernagel is a Venture Partner and Scientific Partner of Aravis. Dr. Zinkernagel graduated from the University of Basel, Switzerland, with an M.D. in 1970. From 1992 to 2008, he was a professor and director of the Institute of Experimental Immunology at the University of Zurich, and after retirement in 2008 continued to be active at the University of Zurich.
Dr. Zinkernagel has received many awards and prizes for his work and contribution to science, notably the Nobel Prize in medicine, which he was awarded in 1996. He also won The Albert Lasker Medical Research Award in 1995, and the Cancer Research Institute William B. Coley Award in 1987.
Dr. Zinkernagel is Vice-President of the International Union of Immunological Societies. He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Boards and science consultant to various life science companies. Among others, he was member of the Board of Directors of Cytos Biotechnology. From 1999 till 2013 he was a member of the Board of Directors of Novartis as an independent Non-Executive Director. He was a member of the Corporate Governance and Nomination Committee.
